Louise Clark (nee Purcell) was one of Cornwall’s best golfers for three decades.

She joined the new Summerheights Golf Club in 1966 and promptly won their first Ladies’ Championship. The next two years also saw the Championship trophy in her possession. Another two wins would come in 1970 and 1971, giving her a total of five Ladies’ Championships in six years.

Participants in the O’Keefe Tournament at Summerheights were also very familiar with Louise Clark. She won that event four years in a row, beginning in 1968. In addition to the O’Keefe, Louise won numerous other tournaments at the Summerheights Golf Club. Among these was the Ladies’ International in 1986 and 1987.

Summerheights was not the only course where Louise has won. She was the Ladies Champion at the Cornwall Golf and Country Club seven times, beginning in 1974.

The Lions Club recognized her splendid years of golf by naming her Golfer of the Year in 1987.

Louise was also very active in bowling. For a number of years, she held the high average in the Ladies’ City Five Pin Bowling League.

She played softball as well, on both the City League and on the Bell Telephone Team.

Louise died on July 27, 2010, at the age of 72.
