Arthur (Art) Gagnon

Arthur “Art” Gagnon, born 1911, was one of Cornwall’s outstanding boxers.

A rugged railroad worker who started out doing a little boxing on the side.

Deciding to give it a go, Art  won the Golden Gloves Championship of Ontario in 1933. Actually knocking out two fighters the same night to win the Championship.

In his prime, Art was considered the best amateur fighter in Ontario fighting across the province in Kingston, Brockville, Ottawa, Montreal, and Cornwall.

After retiring, Art also acted as coach and trainer at the Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge, and the Canadian Legion.
