Marc Hemmerick’s track and field career began in grade school at Ecole Notre Dame in Cornwall.

He pursued track and field after moving to high school at General Vanier, and earned a spot on the Cornwall Cougars Track and Field team.

In 1996, Marc competed at the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships in long jump, triple jump, and 100 metre events. His best finish was 7th in the long jump.

As a senior in high school, Marc won the long jump, triple jump, shot put, and was a member of the 4 x 100 relay team that claimed gold.

In 1997, Marc shattered a 36 year old EOSSA record in the long jump with a leap just over 6.75 metres. That was more than enough to earn Marc his school’s Athlete of the Year honours.

His collegiate career was spent on a track scholarship at Hillside Collegiate in Michigan where he picked up the GLIA Conference’s long jump Championship in his freshman year before going on to win the long jump, and triple jump Championships for the next 3 years.

Marc set school record in long jump, and triple jump while qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in 2000. He place 5th in the long jump. Marc was named “All-American” and given a spot on the “Wall of Honour” at Hillsdale.
