Gordon Hodge was born in Cornwall in 1890. He was educated in public and high schools and then went on to University.
In 1914, he joined the Canadian Army. Gordon was recognized as a star athlete: his chief sports were swimming and wrestling.
While a student at university, he became Regional Champion.
