As a youth, Si Miller actively participated in the many minor programs. He played hockey, lacrosse, softball, and baseball under the OCOT program and was recipient of the F.H. Gray Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship.
Following his minor career, Si played junior baseball for the Holy Name and Cornwall Sports Club teams and then 5 years of senior baseball in the Northern New York League.
His hockey career also flourished through his junior years with the Cornwall Sports Club, the Inkerman Rockets and then with several area Intermediate teams.
With his interest in sports firmly imbedded, Si set out on a career with the City of Cornwall as Director of Parks and Recreation, a position he held continuously from 1963 until his retirement on December 31, 1994.
Si’s interest in the sports programs went beyond his job to that of a parent and a citizen. He actively participated in the minor hockey program, serving as a Director and as a coach at all levels.
He coached the travelling teams from atom to juvenile with one of the many coaching highlights of these teams being part of the Quebec Peewee torunament.
From an organizational standpoint, he was Director of the Ottawa District Hockey Asssociation governing body for 8 years, serving from 1969 to 1971 as President. In addition, he was a Director of the C.A.H.A. from 1969 to 1971.
The Cornwall Lions Club honoured Si for his contribution to sports by naming him the 1971 Jacques Richard Trophy winner. Si’s contributions were so many that the city honoured him by renaming the fabled and now venerable Water Street Arena in his name in the late seventies.(2009).
