Leonard “Len” Winchester, born in Verdun, Quebec, February 13, 1917. Len’s reputation as a top softball pitcher in Cornwall, and Eastern Ontario was well known in the late 40’s as acknowledged by those who played against him.

During the period of 1947 to 1950, Len led his Canadian Legion team to consecutive North End League Championships. The Legion team represented Cornwall in each of these years in the Eastern Ontario playdown, and in 1950 with Len pitching both games in the finals, the Legion team defeated Brockville for the Eastern Ontario Championship.

Len’s personal contribution to this Championship team was recognized in 1949 when he was presented with the Most Valuable Player award.

Len died on January 6, 2014, at the age of 96.
