We are Staying at the Civic Complex
Face Lift for Hall of Fame - Call for Memorabilia and Artifacts
Over the past two years the committee has worked diligently with the city in an effort to move from the Civic Complex to the new Multi Pad Sports Center on Seventh Street West. As a whole we figured it would be the place of maximum exposure for years to come. In the end our efforts failed, however something did come out of it. Many supporters of this idea have asked for a status report and here it is. After meeting with the city on June 14th, we are staying at the Complex and will re make the current HOF by adding showcases to show off our memorabilia. By utilizing the walls and ceilings of the existing HOF we hope that a visit to the CSHOF will become much more user friendly in the near future. If you wish to donate or loan something to the HOF please get in touch with Thom Racine. Remember you do not have to be a member to donate as many of us have many special memories of our sporting days locked away in attics or basement trunks.

Website Update
The Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame is made up of volunteers from many areas of the community. The website work and gallery upgrade has had the help of several very capable volunteers who were former educators and are now helping this project in their retirement. Paul Lusignan and Percy Billard were the translation editors from the beginning of the project, Jack Whyte supervised the photography and reproducing of pictures for the gallery. The project has become the success it was expected to be because of the contributions of all volunteers.
In the spring of 2009 the committee undertook the task of revamping our site again. Biographies are being updated as information is received. Recently (June 2009) the tireless work of Calvin Hanson has proven that our Hall of Fame is special and will continue to be a place to honor sporting accomplishments. It is the hope of the committee that an on line gallery is created and that photographic images will soon appear on these pages.
Remembering Important Friends
CSHOF loses two executive members 2008-2009
The Board of Directors lost one the founding members of the Sports Hall of Fame Rick Forrester who passed away in June, 2003. Rick made a very important contribution to the Sports Hall of Fame through strong leadership and vision. His accomplishments for the "Hall" were many and his work inspired the projects that are progressing at this time. His memory will live on in the Hall of Fame and the community. 2008 was a tough year for members of our committee. Both Dave Dorman and Jack Sheets fell ill. Dave passed away before the end of the year and Jack early in 2009. Both passings have left a large void on the executive of the CSHOF. Dave's love of Track and Field events left a lasting legacy on track meets in this city. His mentorship and coaching will never be forgotten by the countless athletes who he helped along the way. Elected into the Hall of Fame in 1994, Dave sat on our committee in the capacity of induction selection committee chair. In recognition of Dave's career and life, the Hall of Fame committee donated a trophy in Dave's name to be presented at the annual Jacques Richard Lions Club awards night. He served on the CSHOF board for 10 years and was secretary for four years. Dave served on the induction dinner and gallery committees. Jack Sheets worked at Domtar for more than 40 years. He was an avid bridge and cribbage player and was a member of the Cornwall Curling Club senior section. In the summer he loved to golf. Jack was a big New York Yankees fan and best of all Jack was walking baseball and hockey encyclopedia. The committee and sports in general will miss his refreshing sense of humour and his tremendous story telling ability.
The price of Fame
At the Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame these days, everyone's talking about surfing.
The hall's web site, www.cornwallsportshalloffame.com, has been well visited since its creation; it was made possible through a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Over 100,000 visitors have used the site.
The hall's gallery, downstairs at the Cornwall Civic Complex, continues to add new pictures. There are 200 photos on display, with many more to be added.
The committee is also looking to the public to donate or loan pictures or artifacts that we can put on display here in the gallery.
The Web Site and the inductee profiles and are constantly changing to make things better. Because some of the information is sketchy and incomplete, help from families and friends is sought to help in this work.
The hall had its latest induction dinner in 2008. The next induction ceremony will be August 2010. A large gathering of friends, family and inductees are always in attendance at this special event.
For more information on the website and other projects, contact us. If you want to donate a picture or a piece of memorabilia email Thom Racine at thom_racine@hotmail.com
Gallery Profiles
There are over 340 profiles in the Inductee Gallery.
Developing the Inductee Gallery is a major project... the committee will strive to make regular additions and enhancements to the profiles; so be sure to check back on a regular basis. If you have information or photos that would enhance existing information, please contact Thom Racine or anyone of the CSHOF committee members.
Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame Web Site!
Information on Cornwall's sporting heritage is now easier to research than ever before with the development of this website.
Located at www.CornwallSportsHallofFame.com, the Board of Directors and other volunteers have worked hard with website designer, WEBtech, to develop a well balanced site that not only profiles the inductees, but also the ongoing role of the Hall of Fame in the community.
We hope you continue to enjoy the Web Site!
